Important changes under the Strata Law Reforms

By Monica Boyd

Along with 2016 Strata Scheme new legislation, additional changes are now being enforced in regards to renovations.

In short, the strata law reforms have introduced different categories of renovations:

  • Cosmetic works – requires no approval
  • Minor Renovations – requires approval at a general meeting (further notes)
  • Other/Major Renovations – requires approval at a general meeting and the registration of a new by-law

As an owner you must gain permission before doing any minor or major renovations. Otherwise, you may have to change your property back to how it was before the renovations.
